On this page are scenes from Wisconsin, my
favorite place on the planet. It is what I write about and photograph more
than anything else, and I have been a journalist since the 1970s. Wisconsin is a land of lovely small towns, cutting edge urban
diversions, soothing landscapes and brilliant artistry. Much of this is
reflected in “Roads Traveled,” my weekly and syndicated newspaper
column, which is about Wisconsin, its global connections and its border
cities. I have lived in the state for all but two years and have no intention of
calling anywhere else home, but travels also take me to faraway places:
Japan and Korea, Australia and New Zealand, Central and South America. No matter where I land, global connections to my native state are sought
routinely. I consider my work to be one way to build bridges of cultural
awareness and appreciation in this increasingly complex, misunderstood and
troubled world. Click here to read a recent Media Bistro article that includes Mary's advice and observations about freelance writing and photography. |
